What to ask a Cape Town web designer
Put the same questions to every web developer or web design company you shortlist, us included. Get the answers in writing before you pay a deposit.

|---|---|---|
| AskIs the price fixed, and what does it cover? | Why it mattersAn hourly rate has no ceiling. A fixed quote for a written scope does. | Our answerOne fixed quote for the agreed scope, with no hourly billing. A change of scope is quoted in writing before work on it starts. |
| AskHow much is the deposit, and when is the rest due? | Why it mattersIt is what you have at risk before you see a finished site. | Our answerA 50% deposit to start. The balance is due on launch. |
| AskWho owns the design and the code? | Why it mattersIt decides what you may do with the site later, for example if you sell your business. | Our answerYou do, on final payment. |
| AskCan my team edit the site without you? | Why it mattersOtherwise every new photo or price change waits for the designer. | Our answerYes, in a content management system (CMS), the screen where you edit your own pages, with a handover session and short video guides. Growth includes it; on Launch it is a quoted add-on. |
| AskWhen will it launch? | Why it mattersIt sets the date you can start sending people to it. | Our answer3–5 weeks for a marketing site. 6–12 weeks for larger sites and web apps. |
| AskWhat does it cost to run after launch? | Why it mattersHosting, backups and updates are monthly costs. Ask for them in rands. | Our answerHosting comes only with the care retainer, from R 3,500/mo, which also covers security monitoring, backups, content updates and priority support. |
| AskWill it load quickly on mobile data? | Why it mattersA slow page costs visitors on a phone time and data. | Our answerEvery build has a responsive layout tested on phone, tablet and desktop. Growth adds performance tuning. |
| AskWho will design and build it? | Why it mattersKnow who does the work, and which registered company signs your quote. | Our answerOne Cape Town team designs and builds every project. We are Syniq (Pty) Ltd, registration 2025/545109/07. |
What a South African site needs
Whoever builds your site, check these six things before it goes live. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
A privacy notice on every form
A contact form collects personal information. Under POPIA section 18, people must be told who is collecting it, why, and what their rights are.
Consent for marketing messages
POPIA section 69: marketing emails and SMSes need consent, except to your own customers, about similar products. Each must name you and offer an opt-out.
Fast on mobile data
Before launch, open every page on a phone with Wi-Fi off. Large images and autoplay video load slowly and use your visitors' data.
HTTPS on every page
Browsers warn visitors about pages served without HTTPS. Check every page, forms included, before launch.
A .co.za that stays registered
Register it through an accredited .co.za registrar. Put the renewal date in your calendar: a lapsed domain can take your site and email offline.
A verified Google Business Profile
The free profile, not your website, is what map results show. If customers don't come to you, list a service area instead of an address.
When a cheaper option will do
If a standard system would do the job, we'll say so.
- Website builder
- When you need a simple page soon and can design, write and update it yourself.
- Template site
- When a standard layout suits your business and the budget is tight. Ask who owns it and what later changes cost.
- Hosted shop platform
- When you sell a standard catalogue and a ready-made theme fits.
- Custom build
- When you want layout and features fitted to your business, not a template. Ours start at R 9,500.
- Syniq Business OS
- When the real problem is admin: quotes, invoices and a client list. It costs from R 47/mo billed annually (R 59/mo billed monthly), with a 14-day free trial.
From first call to launch
A marketing site launches in 3–5 weeks; larger sites and web apps take 6–12 weeks.

Our lowest fixed price is R 9,500 for one custom page. A website builder or template can suit a tight budget if you are happy to do more of the work yourself. See when a cheaper option will do.
Yes, on the Scale package, quoted after a free discovery call.
No, not on its own. Map results list Google Business Profiles, ranked mainly on relevance, distance and how well known a business is. Verify your free profile and link it to your site. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.
Yes, if it collects personal information, such as names and emails on a form. POPIA section 18 says people must be told what you collect, why, and who you are. A linked privacy notice does that. General guidance, not legal advice.
